Doppelgänger. The Double

Original Title: Doppelgänger. Sobowtór

“Doppelgänger” is a psychological drama with elements of thriller and spy film, inspired by the true story of a James Bond-like figure from Communist Poland (PRL). Under a false identity, pretending to be the son of a German woman, the protagonist builds relationships that aid his espionage career. The story explores how high-level politics affect the lives of ordinary people. Set in the late 1970s and early 1980s, it echoes the style of The Lives of Others. The film portrays a man torn between love and the irreversible path of a spy, whose actions bring destruction, though he is perfect in his role. “Doppelgänger” not only depicts the destructive work of a communist agent but also delves into human emotions, relationships, and the pursuit of truth and identity in a new reality. It is a tale of strength, perseverance, and faith in justice.
